Occupational Therapy for Children

Occupational Therapy

Individual Sessions

Our individual occupational therapy sessions can take place at your home, school, daycare, the local park, or wherever works best for you.

When you first contact us, we will call you to discuss your child’s needs and how we might be able to help you.

Next, we meet with you and your child to see if we are the right fit (we understand we might not be, and that’s okay). We discuss your child’s strengths, how we might be able to help you and come up with a plan together with you.

We are unapologetically play-based and relationship-focused in all sessions and focused on connecting with you and your child in every session.

Group Program

Sense Rugby

Sense Rugby is a rugby-based Occupational Therapy group program designed to help kids who find it challenging to be part of a sports team. There are many reasons children may struggle to find success and enjoyment in sport. Our trained Occupational Therapists and Allied Health Assistants will help you and your child participate in a supportive and fun environment.

Every session involves lots of opportunities to develop your child’s gross motor skills, balance, sensory processing, social skills, turn taking and following instructions, attention and concentration, teamwork and lots and LOTS of smiles!

Sense Rugby is run weekly during school terms. Sessions times are as follows:

3.30pm 4 – 7 year old
4.30pm 8 – 12 year old

Joey’s Mob – Nature-Based Occupational Therapy Groups

as Evidence tells us that time in nature assists children with attention and concentration, gross and fine motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, anxiety, problem-solving, social skills, and the list goes on. It is intrinsically motivating – it is interesting and rewarding enough to make children want to participate without needing anything else. But, most importantly, it’s fun!

We offer small nature-based group therapy with 2 or 3 children per therapist where the child is completely immersed in nature to help them reach their goals. We aim to carry out a therapist-led activity each week. These range from making your own swing to crafts and fishing. With no playground equipment in sight and time for free play at the end, it’s a welcome change to daily regular therapy sessions.

One of the key elements of the approach is that the natural environment is a key contributor (or co-facilitator) in the therapeutic process and it is not simply indoor therapy taken outside.

Kymberley is the only Occupational Therapist in North Queensland that is certified in the ConTiGO approach. So, you can be confident that all of our sessions are based on the latest evidence and follow a proven method.

Groups run most afternoons and we have locations in Rassmussen and Pallarenda to allow as many children as possible to participate.

Naturally Kids Allied Health acknowledges the traditional owners of the land, seas and sky where we live and work – the Bindal and Wulgurukaba people. Our clinic is located on Gurrumbilbarra country, the traditional lands of the Wulgurukaba peoples. We recognise their continuing connection to country and community. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.
